Ethical decisions made have causes and effects, consequences, framed in context of how a movie with different scripts can achieve its highest-priority themes and guarantee positive ratings. A 2012 film, The Hunger Games, directed by Gary Ross and 2014 film, Divergent, directed by Neil Burger presents two ideal films focusing on the ethi cal decisions made by the main characters. This essay aims at identifying the causes and effects of ethical decisions made by the main characters, the impacts of these decisions, how these decisions affect the society.The movie, Divergent, revolves around a society with five different factions: Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless, and the Erudite. Members of ultramodern dystopian Chicago join any of the five groups based on their fondness but are, at first, given a proposition by an aptitude test. The group that controls the government, Abnegation, has brought up Beatrice Prior, the main character. Andrew, Priorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s father, is one of the ruling council heading Abnegation. During the Choosing Ceremony, Prior chooses Dauntless whereas his brother chooses Erudite. Choosing the Dauntless signifies Beatriceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s ethical decision. Beatrice has always been fascinated by Dauntless and she makes an ethical decision by choosing her preferred choice. Beatrice is honest to herse lf. Honesty comprise of communications and conduct. She communicates her honesty by choosing the Dauntless to the dismay of her parents. Beatrice plays by her rules, without fraud. Her father does not welcome Beatrice decisions. Choosing Dauntless implies that she will not be frequently meeting with her parents. The Dauntless are known to be brave. Eric says, "You fight until one of you canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬t anymore." Beatrice courage manifest after she makes a brave decisions during the Choosing Ceremony.The Hunger Games presents a dystopian state of Panem comprising of well-off Capitol controlling 12 poorer districts. The districts have the duty of providing a boy and a girl, aged between 12 and 18, as a punishment for the historical insurgence and a means to discourage the districts from controlling social revolt. Katniss Everdeen, the main character from District 12, volunteers to be the female tribute by replacing her younger sister. Katniss says: "I volunteer! I volunteer! I volunte er as a tribute." Everdeen presents the first case of ethical decision, from family point of view. She cares for her sister. Caring is the core of ethics and ethical decision-making. It is hardly likely to be actually ethical and yet unconcerned with the well-being of others. The main reason why Everdeen decides to replace Primrose is that she really cares about her. The result of Everdeenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s decision is that District 12 is crowned victors of the 74th episode of Hunger Games.Before the Choosing Ceremony, Tori, a Dauntless woman, helps Beatrice take her aptitude test. Tori serve as Beatriceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s proctor. Beatriceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s results amaze Tori, Beatrice is a divergent, meaning she posse attributes of three factions: Abnegation, Erudite, and Dauntless. Tori make an ethical decision when she record Beatriceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s results as Abnegation. Divergents think independently; thus, the government cannot rule them. As a result, divergents are considered threat to the curren t existing social order, in the dystopian Chicago. It is the responsibility of both Beatrice and Tori to keep the true results a secret. An ethical decision has a vital value statement that describes the mission of the main character. Both Beatrice and Tori have the duty to ensure that their secret is not revealed. They institute a code of conduct by keeping a secret among them. An ethical decision calls for responsibility. When Beatrice asks Tori what would happen if the government knows about her divergent nature Tori replies: "The youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬re already dead." The main reason why they keep the secret is to protect Beatrice from the insecure government. Beatrice and Torià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s decision helps the Chicago community from the Eruditeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s plan to manipulate the Dauntless into attaching Abnegation. Since Beatrice and Four are both divergents they cannot be under mind-control by the serum, and help to restore order by making Jeanine to stop the program and release everyon e from mind-control.In the film The Hunger Games, Haymitch, a past District 12 victor makes an ethical decision when he suggests to Crane that he change the rules of engagement and allow two winners. The decision is geared towards making the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"Hunger gamesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ interesting. The main reason of this decision is to keep two contestants alive. This presents an opportunity for Katniss and Peeta, a male tribute from District 12, to come together and fight as a team. Peeta is wounded and Katniss moves him to safety before deciding to go look for medicine from the Cornucopia.
